Suppose you sell an item for $50.00 and charge $5.00 shipping. The gross sale is $55.00. Here is how eBay arrives at what you keep:

Total fees come to $7.88 (14.3% of the gross sale). After the fees and any platform-handled shipping deductions shown above, the net payout is $47.12. After your $15.00 item cost and $4.00 shipping paid separately, the profit is $28.12 — a 56.2% margin on the item price.

How eBay fees work
This calculator models the published non-store US schedule for the listed categories. Final value and international fees use the item price, shipping and buyer tax; collected tax is not seller income. Most categories use marginal bands, but Bullion uses 13.6% on the entire total at $7,500 or less and 7% on the entire total above $7,500. The per-order charge is $0.30 at $10 or less and $0.40 above $10. Most listings cost $0.35 after 250 free listings; Guitars & Basses are free, and the selected heavy Business & Industrial categories always cost $20. Promoted Listings with a general campaign strategy applies the ad rate to the total including shipping and tax when the sale qualifies for attribution. The 1.65% international fee is for US-registered sellers shipping without eBay International Shipping; eligible sales using that program are exempt. Store-specific category schedules, optional upgrades and seller-performance surcharges are not modeled.

- Without a Store, most categories cost 13.6% of the total sale including shipping and buyer tax on the portion up to $7,500 per item, then 2.35% above it. The per-order charge is $0.30 at $10 or less or $0.40 above $10.
- Does eBay charge the final value fee on shipping?
- Yes. The final value fee applies to the full amount the buyer pays, including the shipping charge you set, so offering free shipping does not avoid the fee — it just moves the shipping into the item price.
- How does the $7,500 band work on expensive items?
- Only the portion of the sale above $7,500 is charged at the lower 2.35% rate. On a $10,000 sale in most categories you pay 13.6% of $7,500 ($1,020) plus 2.35% of $2,500 ($58.75), not 13.6% of the full amount.
- How do Promoted Listings fees work?
- With a general campaign strategy, the ad fee is your selected rate times the total sale including shipping and buyer tax. A qualifying sale can be attributed to an ad clicked by any buyer within the previous 30 days; priority campaigns instead charge for clicks and are not modeled here.
- Does a store subscription reduce fees?
- Yes, eligible Store subscriptions have a separate category-specific fee schedule. This calculator uses the non-store schedule; it does not apply a blanket Store discount. Check eBay's Store selling fees page for your subscription and exact category.
